Best Online Classes with Wharton Center

With school out and creativity on the mind, there is no better time to channel your art, and the best online classes are offered with Wharton Center. Registration for Take It From The Top and Wharton at Home Summer Sessions has just been released and you don’t want to miss it.


Taught by Broadway professionals, there’s a program for everyone who wants to learn how to sing, dance, and act. Classes are offered during the window of July 19 – July 30, 2021, and a one-time registration fee that varies for each program.

Participants will need access to a video device (a laptop, tablet, or phone) and internet service. 

Here’s our lineup:

Five-Day Workshop: The HITS!

Grades 5-12. July 19-23, 2021. 10am-3pm. $175

Participants will explore the “triple threat” disciplines of music, dance, and acting from various musical theatre styles and influences. Learn more & sign up here.

Creative Kids

Grades 2-4. July 19-23, 2021. 10am-12pm. $100

Students will explore engaging theater activities as they sing, dance, and act with our team of Broadway professionals each day. With shorter days and age-appropriate curriculum, there is something for everyone. Learn more & sign up here.


Grades 5-College. July 25-30, 2021. $225

Audition required. The TIFTT Company is aimed at students with a serious interest in musical theatre performance and are looking for a more personal, in-depth training program. Learn more & sign up here.

Adult Workshop

Wednesday July 28, 2021. 7-10pm. $25

Join Paul Canaan and his team for an entertaining night of singing and dancing. Participants will learn some Broadway choreography and can sing for individual coaching. No experience is necessary, and all are welcome! Learn more & sign up here.


Taught by Wharton staff and teaching artists, these Wharton at Home online art classes are available from May 17- June 25, 2021. With a one-time $35 registration fee, you will have the opportunity to learn from and create alongside professionals, from your own home.

Monologue and Scene Study for Teens

Grades 8-12. May 17 – June 25, 2021. Wednesdays 4-5pm.

This course will focus on acting skills within scene and monologue study for beginners and experienced performers alike. Instructor Sarah Hendrickson will lead participants through exercises and activities centered on creating character, listening and responding, and intent and objective, all within the context of age-appropriate material. Learn more & sign up here.

Introduction to Theatre

Grades 5-8. May 17 – June 25, 2021. Thursdays 4-5pm

Students will get a broad, introductory look into the many areas that make up theatrical arts, including acting, movement, voice, improv, design, and more. This highly interactive course will feature a new topic each week, with professional Wharton Center teaching artists and education staff from Michigan State University Extension 4-H. Learn more & sign up here.

Introduction to Voice

Grades 3-5. May 17 – June 25, 2021. Tuesdays 4-5pm.

For beginning and intermediate students alike, this course will introduce the basics of singing-breath, production, registration, style, vocal health—in an age-appropriate format for students in grades 3-5. Students will sing for each other in a supportive and positive environment and have the chance to “perform” for family and friends in the last week. Learn more & sign up here.
